Translation Memory Tools
Ways With Words uses Translation Memory tools where appropriate, with the aim of making the translation process more efficient and helping to keep terminology consistent throughout multiple documents.
The software we use breaks the text of a document into segments, either sentences or sentence fragments and arranges these in a convenient way for the translator to work on them.
Each translated segment is saved together with the source text as it is translated. These translation units are saved and the translator can check and revise them at any time.
The translation units are saved in a database called a Translation Memory, so that they can be used again if the same phrase or sentence occurs in multiple documents. When new documents are analysed against an existing Translation Memory, the software provides a range of match percentages, starting at 100%, which means the text is identical, as well as "fuzzy" matches, which have some similarities, but will need to be amended by the translator.
These tools aid the translation process in general and lead to greater productivity and increased consistency.
